On Fourth of July, celebrate heroes who fight for others

Published on Jul 4, 2016

Every Fourth of July, author Sebastian Junger says he thinks about what America means to military servicemen who came as emigrants to the U.S. What motivates them to fight and risk their lives in a country where they might be discriminated against when they’ve returned from duty? Junger considers our ordinary heroes who serve the greater good and not just themselves.

Bob Hope Christmas

Bob Hope was without a doubt one of the greatest entertainers of all time. A wonderful look at some special moments Bob spent with the troops during his many Christmas performances. What a classic entertainer he was and I’m sure that anyone that ever saw him perform live will never forget the show. Thank You to all the Veterans that ever spent a Christmas away from their family and to Bob Hope for spending his Christmas with the troops.

"Dress Blues" is a very solemn song that was released on Isbell's 2007 album, titled Sirens of the Ditch. The song was inspired by a school colleague of Isbell, Corporal Matthew Conley.  In an interview with Uncut Magazine, Jason said, "I knew Matt Conley not very well, he was a few years younger. I was coming off a tour with the (Drive-By) Truckers, and I called my mom and she told me about his funeral, which she'd attended that day, and when I got home I wrote 'Dress Blues' in a time it takes to write it down on a piece of paper. I already had the chord progression from a song I've been working on about Mickey Rooney, of all things. The song just fit that tune."
